Common Knowledge
Written by Venna
Cracks in the windshield, I take my foot off of the gas.
I could close my eyes and pretend to let this moment last,
but I see you in shadows and in empty rooms.
Tell me your story,
the one that’s broken,
the on that’s true.
Though your wings remain unseen,
I know you feel their weight.
It’s the one that keeps you up at night,
the only you can hardly stand to bear.
So here’s the line before you, you can stand, or you can run.
Maybe the worse is over but you still can’t sleep alone.
Common Knowledge decries the notion
that you should feel alive.
The battle has hardly started
but you’ve thrown the fight.
Though your wings remain unseen,
I know you feel their weight.
It’s the one that keeps you up at night,
the only you can hardly stand to bear.
I trust you with my innocence a truth you can’t betray.
I can’t stand our bed at night, I miss your weight.
If there’s a cure for knowing this,
inject me quick.
Everything’s still beautiful,
but it’s still so dark.
Though your wings remain unseen,
I know you feel their weight.
It’s the one that keeps you up at night,
the only you can hardly stand to bear.
First things first, CD right here.
I know I plugged Venna before but you know I got to do it again. This is a super favorite. I love this perspective. It’s like someone who’s happy and contented but still a little sad because of someone left behind in the process. Someone who the speaker wanted to come along for the journey. Love it.
This is great female vocalists action mixed with down-home music and fun instrumentation. It’s real music people, not a ton of sampled toy sounds. Seriously, just go check them out.
I went to a show at Reggies to see another band which is in Venna’s band family, the Felix Culpa. Two of the players from Venna are in Felix Culpa (Funky Bunch and Dusty). This band is nothing like Venna but I also suggest them. Harder, louder; a little more Ed B.’s style. Still I, an entirnal soft music lover, also enjoy them. It’s also very musical. I think that’s what I like…for music to have music.
Anyway! While I was there I ran into Funky Bunch, Hay Doo and Dusty. (pictured below) Dusty and I have meet a few times and I have the pleasure of hanging with. On the other hand with Funky Bunch and Hay Doo I had only had a few brief (and awkward) interactions. When I meet them at the show they were very nice and thanked me for the blog I wrote last time. This confirmed the fact that at least one person has seen my blog, making my inter-existence worth continuing. Also, that is just super cool. They are all super nice, super cool people and you would be helping people awesomness by checking out Venna.

On another note: You guys have heard me talk extensively about Proximo, right? Well, the album is here! Wanna hear what I’ve been typing about? Then go to www.myspace.com/proximomusic. Once you are there you can listen to the NEW EP IN IT’S ENTIRETY!! That’s right! The whole friggin’ thing is on MySpace. Who said MySpace was a total waste of time. This at least slightly justifies its’ existence.
